Reactions and Reviews
Rescuing Kirk from a dangerous mission forces Spock to relax his controls, and extreme hotness ensues. I love the way the author makes Kirk submissive without compromising any of his determined, confrontational nature. [1]
This one really gets your blood boiling! Aye yi yi! Once again, Kirk has placed himself in a dangerous position for the sake of Starfleet. Attempting to infiltrate a band of illegal weapons dealers, he is confronted by a group of large and very powerful men intent upon raping him. It was interesting how the author described this band of warriors, because she made them sound very physically attractive. Tall, blond, muscular, dark skinned and oddly appealing. Unfortunately, they found Kirk appealing. Spock, having sensed Kirk would get himself into trouble, followed him to the seedy bar where the opening scene takes place.Spock sits incognito, watching the action and formulating a plan to extract Kirk without betraying his identity in this undercover operation. The solution he devises is very, very erotic! He releases the controls on his temper, thereby releasing all his controls. Kirk’s later reminder, “you had a hard-on as big as my forearm”, sends chills up my spine. Or maybe heat would be a better word than chills. Needless to say, it paints a most interesting and daunting picture. This is a great premise, expertly written, and about as convincing as it could possibly be. I loved seeing Spock this way, I loved witnessing him display anger and exude dangerous sexuality where Kirk was concerned.
That is not the end of the story. As you might imagine, Spock has much to answer for and most of the questions are ones he is asking himself. Kirk has a few also, but with his typical ingenuity, he pretty much knows the answer before he asks.
I would definitely say “Dare” is the backbone of T’hy’la 25, although admittedly, I have not finished reading the zine. If you like a fervently protective Spock, one that exhibits none of the weaknesses or insecurities sometimes used to describe his nature, if you like a Spock who is 100% male, with all the accompanying attributes, you will LOVE this story. [2]
I love this story! It's exciting and passionate, with just enough danger to spice it up without producing too much angst for me to handle. I like the characterizations of our favorite pair of heroes. And the reason the author gives for having Kirk beam down to a bar on a backwater planet on a mission alone, with no communicator and no backup, into a gaggle of great big hairy, handsome, muscled aliens is logical. Given Kirk's often impetuous and very brave decisions, it is...just Jim. I loved Spock's dogged determination to follow Kirk surreptitiously and keep him safe. He intervenes and pries his Jim out of a tight spot That is putting it mildly for Kirk is a hot little number and his tasty ass is on the menu of these hungry, dirty rotten scoundrels who are causing trouble in the Neutral zone. The moody atmosphere of the bar and the alien planet the author creates is vivid and exciting. I so admire her talent and imagination; and this initial part of the scenario is my second favorite part of this story. Mostly because of the way Spock asserts his power, his ownership of his Human and his display of a "hard-on as big as Kirk's forearm.". Yikes! Who wouldn't want to get their hands around that?! As for any other areas of Kirk's anatomy that might encompass it, well, leave that to Jim to figure out. Figure it out he does. Kirk comes through with flying colors after Spock saves his bacon. And here comes my most favorite part of the story. They are back on the ship, together again in Spock's cabin. Kirk is all apologetic, realizing what the sexual display, and Kirk's lying to Spock must've done to his beloved friend. The upshot is that Kirk had liked what he'd seen in Spock's pants--really liked it--and now wants more of it, forever and always, exclusively for him. I can't tell you how sensual it is when he gets it! A long, lovely, intimate conversation and a steamy, romantic love scene. I totally fell for their loving, the gentleness and sweetness of it. Reading each other's thoughts, making promises, lots of kissing and sex. It left my eyes shining, my heart melted and my cravings satisfied. Perfection! Don't miss it! [3]
