After Completion
Critical Commentary
"I'm more eternally sighing [than eternally mad] about this fic, but Dancing to My Punchlines really ended up exemplifying a lot of the trends in the Silmarillion fandom that I disliked before I peaced out of it.(At least, outside the Angbang faction.) It's relatively well-written (but so, so long) but it has little to nothing to do with the Silmarillion. It's a very long piece of original fiction about characters while weird ass names in an American college town."[5]
Positive Commentary
"[...] I've really loved reading this story. Back in my early days in the Silm fandom, when I was just starting to get invested into the fandom as a whole, DWMP was one of the first fics I read. I think this was really early days, when the chapter count wasn't yet at double digits and I was still cautiously dipping a toe into all the fan stuff. And I liked it. It was funny, it was great. I would keep checking the Silm tag here for an update and that's how I started reading a bunch of other Silmarillion fics and finding other fans but it all started with you and DWMP. You're just such a talented writer and you bring your characters to life and make an old tale new and your own. Reading DWMP has been such a pleasure and an honour, I can honestly say it is the best of its genre I've ever read. DWMP started on a high, was full of multiple highs (both metaphorical and literal), and ended on the best high possible. I'll miss seeing its new chapters and its been a hell of a ride but I look forwards to whatever you come up with next. Thank you for all the amazing writing and all the hard work you've put into this story. I can't begin to express how much appreciation I have for you."[7]
