Alice "Daisy" Tonner is introduced as a police detective dealing with supernatural incidents during Season 2 of The Magnus Archives. She is shown to have no qualms against kidnapping and murdering those she sees as monsters, due to her affiliation to the Hunt. She is forced to join the Institute by Elias, who uses Basira as a hostage against her. She enters the Buried coffin and is rescued by Jon in Season 4, and undergoes a change of character, although in the end she gives into the Hunt and becomes animalistic until her death at Basira's hands in Season 5.
Fandom
Initially, a lot of the fanart of Daisy portrayed her as a masculine or butch lesbian. This became controversial as some pointed out the negative stereotyping associated with lesbians as being aggressive, while others had an attachment to her as a lesbian character. Similar arguments played out about portraying her as a woman of colour, or as a transgender woman. For example, a popular Tumblr user vented about the offensive implications of butch!Daisy, created a headcanon about Daisy being a femme lesbian after coming out of the Buried, then redacted the entire concept.[1]
Fandom reception of Daisy was mixed. Some people were put off by her previous occupation and the brutality she carried out as a police officer, and saw liking her as tantamount to supporting the institution itself. Others liked her character in canon but disliked the baggage or stereotyping that the fandom attached to her. Others fully embraced the complexity of her character. Lots of fans were also attracted to her violent or unhinged tendencies, leading to a satirical song that someone made out of the comments on her wiki page[2].
Shipping
The most common ship with Daisy is Daisy/Basira, due to their strong bond in canon. Due to them being police officers, some people dislike the ship or ignore it.
