In both stories, Bodie and Doyle go to LA to search for a serial killer. They stay with Starsky and Hutch, and both set of parters learn something about each other.

"Thru' with the Twostep" is a happier re-telling of "Crying for the Moon." It is told from the point of view of Bodie.

Author's Comments: Crying for the Moon (1984)

...someone commented that the Starsky in "Crying for the Moon" seemed the archetypal little housewife. Not so, though being a housewife is an honourable profession. It is difficult to write anything domestic without having your readers immediately try to categorize -- Starsky does the wash therefore he must be the woman type stuff. It doesn't work that way...honest. To those of you who were perturbed by such things; who seek to insert our heroes into traditional roles, try thinking of the relationship without the sex, a la roommates and the division of labour suddenly may seem a lot more sensible and a lot less a reflection on the sexuality of the characters. Author's Comments; Thru With the Two Step (1988)

What was the first B/D story I wrote? Pause for a quick search through the files. Oh, yeah, "Thru with the Two Step" under the name Dargelos, which is what I wrote under in S&H fandom. I think it was way out of character. I wrote it after reading the stories that Robbie loaned me, and I guess I was writing my interpretations of other writers' interpretations. Not the best situation to work from. Not only have I reread it since I wrote it, I've rewritten it. It appeared in Code 7 iii as "Crying for the Moon" under the name Fanny Adams. I think there are some copies of "Two Step" floating around on the circuit...to my everlasting chagrin. [2]

Reactions and Reviews

The first B/D story I ever read was Crying for the Moon - which I was reading because it was a S/H story - and I had no idea who these two were, but knew that I had to find out. Which happened when I attended my first Z-Con. What a revelation! Of course, I had to join the library... [3]

One of the stories that got me interested in Pros was a S/H x Pros story in one of [Karen B]s Code 7's. (I think the story was by Fanny Adams. Starsky has resigned (health reasons) but Hutch is still on the force, and has to work with these two Brits--brings them home so that Starsky can give him his opinion about them, and they realize that B & D have a fairly new, and decidedly rocky sexual attachment.)
