Continue/Stop/Rise is a fangame for OFF created by M-256. It is the first full game in a series of fangames within the OFF fanverse CSRverse.
Plot
This article or section needs expansion. |
The game is a post-canon exploration of the creator's interpretation of OFF's plot. It follows The Batter and his alternates, Bad Batter and Ghost Batter, as they explore Heaven to find his missing add-ons and find that they've become entities similar in appearance and nature to the Zone Guardians of OFF.
Reaction
The game was polarizing to the OFF fanbase, with some criticizing its character dialogue/writing and dark tone and others praising these aspects.
Honestly, compared to other OFF fangames I've played, this one's plot definitely sticks out. The whole Heaven merging with Earth is a pretty cool idea and the Add-Ons becoming sentient and all was nice. The Batter Trio were the most notably memorable and multilayered characters, which honestly surprised me. Some humor is cleverly written as well. All gushing aside, it's time to talk negative. The biggest problem I, and a lot of other people, have with Continue/Stop/Rise is that's too depressing, and that a good majority of scenes were way to dark(I'm looking at you Black Batter). [1]
The writing of Ghost Batter, and his past self Black Batter, is often a central part of both criticism and praise made towards the game. He grew to be a fan favorite alongside Bad Batter to such an extent that he was made the main protagonist of the sequel.
Despite its mixed reception, Continue/Stop/Rise has become one of the most well-known OFF fangames. In the years since its release, it's garnered a small fanbase that's fluctuated in size over time and expanded in focus to CSRverse as a whole. Due to M-256 posting its development progress and download link on Tumblr, and primarily being active there at the time, the fanbase initially existed almost entirely on there. M-256 also had a joint askblog and roleplay blog for the protagonists of the game that fans would engage with, but this was later made private.
Prior to the release of its sequel, the primary ships in the fandom were various pairings of The Batter and his alternates and Ghost Batter/Sugar, the latter being implied to be canon at the end of the game. Shipping of the Batters has diminished significantly over time due to interest shifting to different pairings, almost entirely involving characters introduced in later games, and changing attitudes about incest ships within the fandom.
