Reactions and Reviews
1989
This basically well-written story suffers from a few noticeable flaws.

I also thought the reader was 'teased' with the party of Kirk's friends. We have no idea how Kirk's friends felt about seeing him again or how well they accepted Spock, or what Spock thought of them. It was all very distant.
Otherwise, the story was competently written. It held my interest throughout, though K and S really didn't do much. It was nice reading about them in such a pleasant, relaxed environment. If the ending would have had more punch, the other flaws could have been more easily overlooked. [1]
A nice gentle story as Kirk and Spock gradually come to terms with their feelings for each other. It seems much more realistic this way, the very slow and hesitant reaching out, rather than falling into each other's arms immediately. I also liked the portrayal of Kirk's mother. She is just as I picture her — vital, intelligent, and involved. Good story. [2]
A nice down-home story. I really enjoyed the skinny-dipping scenario; and I especially liked the bit with the "haunted cave" and the differences shown between one's childhood memories of such things vs seeing them again as an adult. The only problem I had with this story was when Spock gave his IDIC to Kirk - I thought there should have been something more to show the significance of that. [3]
1990
I was very disappointed in the ending of this story. After 24 pages of careful build up, the page and a half for a sex scene to end it seemed abrupt and unsatisfying. There were a couple of things that also struck me as wrong, the worst of which being would. Kirk really openly refer to Spock's aborted Pon Farr in front of Kirk's mother. [4]
