Snowed in. Sex ensues. This trapping them places thing seems to work well.[1]

That I was going to rec one of Lemon Drop's stories was inevitable. Trying to decide which one was the problem. Then I came across this brand new one today. I knew that was the one I had to rec. It has a fabulous plot that I am not even going to tell you about. If I tell you anything it will spoil the story and I'm not going to do that. The plot is rich, the love between the guys is so palpable you can see it, and I just love how she gets them together. More than once this story had tears springing to my eyes. It has those surprise moments that are just so sweet and heart rendering that you can't help but cry a little. I love that, stories that bring a few tears out of you and you don't even see it coming. You just find yourself shedding a few. It isn't a big tear jerker, just little moments I found so touching. This is a truly beautiful story and Lemon Drop's work just gets better every time. Each one is better than the last. This one is rich and sweet, gets to you slow like some elements mixed in the story. It has that tone to it. I was so hoping to find a good story when I went searching for new stuff at the archive today, it was a delight to find this gem. In fact, why don't you go read all of her work. You can find it at the 852 Archive, just look under L for Lemon Drop. Or you can go to the very bottom of the page where it says search engine and do a search for her work. Here's a hint, if you want to find the newest stuff at that archive, skip the sections where it says the updates of the last 7 or 30 days. Go to the search engine and in the section of sorting by date, ask for the last 7 days. You will find all the new stuff posted there. Even stuff for that day. Little tip that it took me a while to figure out. I was slow on the uptake. Didn't notice that little search engine feature at the bottom, it's so small you almost miss it. Especially, when there are all those thousands of stories and authors to look through there. I'll shut up now though, go read Lemon Drop's story. It's fabulous.[2]

2000

I'm not one of the big fans of this writer, but I thought this story was really, really good, and very original. [3]

Why you should read this: A long, lovely atmospheric piece that feathers layer upon layer of details and mood, this has all kinds of cool stuff that lets this work on many levels, as comfort fic (Jim and Blair cozy up in front of a fire, kindle romance), and as a nicely significant literary landscape (birch trees, mythic archetype, vision quests). You got some romance, some meaning, and some tongue sandwiches.

What might throw you off stride: I had some personal responses to the story that may not affect anyone else's reading--concerns about structure that may evaporate on rereading at some point, a slight resistance to warm-and-fuzzy Jim characterization, a dislike of neutral anatomical terms used in sex scenes ("penis," "anus," "scrotum"). Overall, though, this was a complex and interesting story, and one that should not be missed. Perfect for a winter evening.[4]

2003

I'm biased. Lemon Drop is on my Top 5 list and can do no wrong. This story is rich in imagery, beautiful moments that make me sigh out loud. Again, the love between Jim and Blair is *there* in every scene. Gorgeous. [5]

2007

It's a gorgeous atmospheric story that deals with deep emotional issues in a surprising mellow way. In the aftermath of a traumatic case, Jim and Blair spend Thanksgiving at an old house out in the country. They experience a strange bit of magic there that brings them closer together.[6]

Summary: This takes place post series, and Blair has become a detective. Just after a tragic case where he's wondering whether he's strong enough to be a cop, his mother calls. Naomi is house-sitting at an unusual place and she invites Blair and Jim to come up over the Thanksgiving holiday.

While poking around the house Jim finds a set of unusual bottles that look like extract bottles, but the "flavorings" are more extraordinary: "reminiscence", "strength", "melancholy", among others. Both fascinated and apprehensive, the guys try several of the bottles. What they discover is both disturbing and enlightening.

Reccer's Notes: I recommend Lemon Drop's stories a lot, both here and elsewhere. She has an ethereal quality in her writing that just seems to carry me along on a magical ride. This has to be one of my favorite Thanksgiving stories, even though there's not a turkey in sight! Enjoy.[7]
