Some Excerpts
I discovered ATXC by accident, I didn't know there was such a thing as fanfic. My head was already full of possible XFiles plotlines. Plus, I wanted to try writing and, short stories seemed like a better bet than trying to go head first into a novel. The usual trouble with short stories is that it's hard to develop characters, who aren't just stereotypes, but who get to "work" quickly enough. Writing XF fanfic seemed like the ideal outlet. A supportive place to learn; excellent characters and setting to borrow; and a chance to use some of the plots spinning through my brain.
Every show should start from the principle that we're watching two FBI agents trying to solve a serious crime.
What I first saw was "a friendship built on respect," spiced with a dose of sexual attraction. That's still the relationship I mostly like to write about. The show wobbles on this though. At this point (mid S6), I think the intellectual attraction and respect between the two is being neglected. If they can get that back, then maybe they can do more!
I really miss the XClusive web site that had a whole cluster of my personal favourite authors in one place. I tend to rely on other people to spot good stories that I miss, so I sometimes visit recommendations' sites like: The Mulder Archives; Laura Burchard's favorites page; Sparky's Doghouse; Chronicle X, The Acacia Archive, Behavioral Science Unit, Mulder Torture Anonymous etc.
My mother reads them and likes them, I was shocked to learn that she passes them on to other family members. They are surprised that I write for free, which I've decided is a compliment.
