Charmuro was not initially popular as early BL fandom was dominated by Charma which paired Char and Garma together, it remained unpopular for decades until the early 2000's with a surge in popularity possibly influenced by larger shifts in shipping trends and new fans exposed to the franchise for the first time.[1]
Charmuro quickly rose in popularity from the early 2000's on and is so dominant in the modern day that new fans often express surprise upon learning that the ship's status as a juggernaut is a relatively recent development.
