Category talk:Stargate
I am so confused by the structure of this Category. SRSLY, I"m a huge All-THings-Stargate fan and I'm still confused by this category. Stargate Meta is a subcategory of Stargate AND of Stargate Atlantis? Some characters are tagged with both Stargate Atlantis Characters AND Stargate Characters, but there is no Stargate SG-1 Characters subcategory? It looks like someone wanted heir cake and eat it too but halfway through they decided to switch to pie... It's like... WHAT. I'm STRONGLY suggesting a serious rehaul here. Either let's make it like Category:Jossverse where BUffy and Angel are separate categories but Buffyverse Characters is a subcategory to both (and as a result characters only have one fandom subcategory and can be found in either show's category) or like Category:Vampire Diaries where characters are placed in either or both character categories depending on whether or not they appear on one or both shows and there is no main character category. The way things are right now in the Stargate category is just too messy and confusing. Thoughts? --Alex (talk) 13:43, 15 December 2016 (UTC)
- I don't think it's a matter of wanting a lot of cake, but more that when the wiki was created, it was populated by many huge SGA fans, and that tended to override a lot of decisions. When they drifted away, other people kept pecking away at the "Stargate" things, but there was never a big overarching plan, no big picture. I agree it's all confusing and needs a major overhaul. I only added Stargate meta yesterday to keep track of all the similar essays, so I could figure out what to do with them next. I like the idea of a Jossverse-structure for it. I'm not very good at sorting things out like this, so I hope someone else with that sort of thinky brain can step in. --MPH (talk) 15:23, 15 December 2016 (UTC)
- Actually, the reason that there is no Stargate SG-1 Characters subcategory is that no one has made one yet. :( The most activity the Stargate SG-1 pages have seen was from someone who was heavily into the Tok'ra, only the Tok'ra, so that skewed things quite a bit. Generally I would advise against going the Jossverse route. In a wiki categories tend to get more specific, not less. There are things that only apply to SG-1, things that only apply to SGA and things that apply to both. Having the option to narrow it down is a good thing IMO. --Doro (talk) 14:08, 17 December 2016 (UTC)
