A C-pop idol is an artist performing in the C-pop genre of music. A large majority of them are of Han Chinese ethnicity but there are still quite a few idols with more diverse nationalities and ethnic origins. C-pop idols posess talents ranging from singing and dancing, to rapping and possibly acting. To become a professional Chinese idol, most companies require a minimum of a year of intense training under mentors. The process of training and reaching stardom is rigorous but fullfilling and many give up their lives for a chance, only to never make it.
