Byron & Roark is a common gen (combi in Japanese) relationship in the Pokémon fandom. It pairs Byron (Tougan) and his son Roark (Hyouta), both introduced in Pokémon Diamond, Pearl and Platinum as the Steel-type gym leader and the Rock-type gym leader respectively. They are the first gym leaders in the series to be related, something not seen again until Gordie & Melony in Pokémon Sword and Shield.
Their combi name in Japanese, 瓜親子, meaning Melon Parent & Child, comes from Tougan being the name of winter melons/wax gourds and Hyouta being the name of long melons/calabashes.
