But That's Forbidden Love is a meme originating from 4chan's /a/ board in 2011 that is used to describe a taboo relationship, usually between two women or girls. It was popularized with an image of Hitomi Shizuki from Puella Magi Madoka Magica thanks to a scene where she misunderstands Kaname Madoka and Miki Sayaka's relationship, running away from them shouting "girls can't love girls".[1] Edits of screenshots with characters holding their face in a similar manner to Hitomi and redraws of the scene continued in the following years.
