Some Fic Examples

Yahoo! Group

Henson had a Yahoo! Group to update fans on fiction. It was called "Brookwork,," and it was created January 24, 2004.

Okay so, yeah, I tend to serialize my stories and postWIPs which I know is just, on principle, frustrating to some. I've tried to be more prolific and to minimize the 'works in progress' that I put out there-- in fact I don't think I've added a WIP to either my gen or slash site in a long while, not since 'Blackbird'. As a result, I have two long stories that I've classified as 'series': "A Guide's Guide", which is slash, and "Inverse" which is gen. I'm actively working on both of these and would be glad to (that is to say, it is my intention to) post updates to this list before I post them anywhere else.

As for WIPs, those that I am still working on (or, in other words, haven't deemed as lost causes and chucked) are as follows:

"They Also Serve" (both gen and slash versions)
"Blackbird"
"Still Waters/Undertow"
"Valley of the Shadow"

I'll post updates on these as well, whenever they are postworthy.

It will depend on how many people actually join this list, and what your preferences are as to whether or not I will post other WIPs or snibbits to this list. Feel free to post whatever comments/discussion/criticism that you'd like about my stories to the list-- and this doesn't have to be all about me, either. If anybody has fic that they'd like to post and have discussed, I'm all for it.

So basically, yeah-- that's about it. I've had people ask me to alert them to updates, and that, in essence is what this list is for. I've no doubt that it will also help motivate me to actually do the updating. Cheers to the muse! [1]

Fan Comments

I have most of Brook Henson's gen stories hard copied in my fanfiction collection. I'm just starting on her slash that are at 826 Prospect. Though I hadn't pull any (obtain hard copies of) the slash one. She's real good with Jim angst. And she does a strong Blair both in slash and gen that I appreciate.

Her early stories were the best first person Jim stories I have read on the net. (The only one who comes close is Becky and DL Whitherspoon) And she's one of the few authors that remember the possible after effects of somebody with Jim's military background. (DL and Jet are good at that too.)

The best compliment I can give to Brook is that I'd pulled her Cypher MS on the basis that she did such a good job on the other stories. To date *her* Cypher MS story is the only one have a hard copy of.

Interesting touch Brook had put in some of her stories. Jim's anxiety attacks (for lack of a better word). Something which had been seen twice in canon. Iceman (it's really doubtful Jim would be out of breath running that short distant, plus Blair didn't seem to be. It was the moment Blair suggested Jim to smell Iceman's gum to locate Amber.) And Blind Man's Bluff when Jim was waiting in Simon's car trying to will his sight to come back. He was clearly panting. Brook uses that in some of her stories when Jim is stressed.

Her current Inverse series is a grim ride, but I'm staying on for it. [2]
