Reactions and Reviews

1990

As I noted the author's name, I looked forward to reading a story by a male writer [1], eager to see the difference in points of view on love making.

My thoughts after two pages was, 'good, a plot.' I followed the story fairly easily up to where the Romulan? Romulan/Vulcan man carried Kirk to a cabin or perhaps it was an old building. From there things became really confused. Kirk was drugged, Kirk was made love to? Kirk was strong, Kirk was weak? One minute everything was cloak and dagger, pass words, identification phrases, everything bugged, sabotage and terrorism, the next minute, every one just strolls around and no one pays any attention to them. The Romulan was grateful to Spock for something? I'm pretty sure he lead Spock to Kirk, Spock was jealous? Angry? There seemed no concern about being in touch with the ship, were they on leave? Kirk loves Spock, he responds to Spock, he wants the Romulan, he's not sure what he wants, but happily the Romulan has apparently left, solving that particular problem. Kirk and Spock stroll off into some woods or something. They're also planning on fixing a broken bond I was not previously aware they had in this story, the title being the only place it was mentioned.

I came to the last of the story completely confused and disappointed.... I did give it a good try! [2]

Kirk just seems to be irresistible to everyone who comes into contact with him. And Re'Quin was no exception. I especially loved the conversation between Kirk and Spock where our Vulcan stakes his claim to Kirk and lets him know in no uncertain tens that the human belongs to him. I just love an aggressive Vulcan. [3]

Here we are given a good look at the working side of the command crew. I'd like to see Scott do a real non-stop action tale sometime. The depiction of ReQuin was refreshing in that he was shown as less than a sadistic monster, the way most Romulans are interpreted. One thing I'd like to have seen is more attention given to sentence structure -- many of then seemed disjointed and would have been more readable broken in to less lengthy segments. [4]
