Brits in Space was a convention held in November 10-11, 1989 in St. Louis, Missouri.

The venue was Stouffer Concourse Hotel.

The guests of honor were Sophie Aldred, Mark Ryan, John Levene, Paul Darrow, Michael Keating and Jacqueline Pearce.

Events included: Costume contest, dealer's room, art show, video room, art/charity auction, autographs, panels, contributor's party, photo session, banquet, and a guest hosted video session.

The con was named after Pigs in Space, a recurring sketch from The Muppet Show.

The con banquet: "your choice of either prime rib or chicken marsala (both delicious)."

About

[Referring to the possible similarity between the Liberator and the pigs' spaceship in the sketch] Someone in St. Louis made the above connection years ago. The con was called BRITS IN SPACE (I forget the year). The guests were Michael Keating, Jackie Pearce, Mark Ryan (from ROBIN OF SHERWOOD) and ? Levine (the actor who portrayed Sgt. Benton in DR WHO). At the opening ceremonies all the actors came out in pig masks and the banner above the stage said PIGS IN SPACE! It was really quiet funny and one of the best cons I've ever attended. [1]

The Murder Mystery Activity

The activity on Saturday night was a murder mystery in costume:

The super-chic Thick As A Brick Cafe where the strictly upper class meet for tete-a-tetes? Where the greatest performers with the latest sounds nudge elbows with the elite of many nations? Or where the latest assignation is ... assassination?

BRITS IN SPACE is pleased to present "Thick As A Brick Cafe," our convention's Murder Mystery Banquet. The heart-stopping action begins mundanely enough. Bazil Dazzle, entrepreneur extraordinaire and manager of TAABC, plans an evening of entertainment and revelry for the guests where the upper crust can let their hair down. Little does he know the heinous direction this night will take. Murder most foul fells victim after victim at the glamorous nightery. And no one is safe!

Fabled crooners the rich and famous the seemingly most innocent of tourists all fall victim to a murderer in their midst. Where will the fiend strike next? Will the soup du jour deliver the coup de grace? Audience participation is all part of the fun, although you don't have to be very active if you don't want to. Additionally, our British guests will join heartily into the festivities. When you register, you'll be given a character to portray. You may decide to dress apropos your new persona. But you don't have to we leave that up to you. However, we do ask that you remain "in character" throughout the evening. Soon after you sign up, you'll receive a plot sketch, describing the plot and other events going on that pertain to the action. At the door, you'll receive your "persona card" and a brief character sketch reminder.

Please note that you will not receive tickets by mail. If you want a receipt for your banquet fee or information about your character, please include a self-addressed, stamped envelope when you register. (We rate this activity at PG-13, by the way. Children under 12 will not be given a participatory role.) Seating at the banquet will be assigned beforehand, so get with your friends, let us know you're all going to be there, and we'll make every effort to seat you together. And don't forget you must be registered for a BRITS IN SPACE three-day weekend or one-day Saturday membership in order to attend.

The price of $23.00 will include this unforgettable entertainment, plus your choice of either prime rib or chicken marsala (both delicious). Please fill out the banquet registration form below completely, including your companions' names, and return it with your fees. Thank you for your interest in "Thick As A Brick Cafe." We hope to see you there!
