The Boop Button was a novelty feature added to Tumblr for April Fools' Day in 2024. Any user that opted in had the word "boop" next to their username on all of their posts. Anyone on the site could push the button to "boop" them and the user who pressed the boop button would see a cat paw appearing across their screen. There was also a boop counter for each individual tracking how many "boops" they sent and received.
While the boop button wasn't strictly a fannish occurrence, it did result in a fair amount of fanart and fandom memes. The boop button also served as an impetus to discuss communication between the site's users, both fannish and non-fannish.
