Bookmarks are thin marking tools usually made from cardboard, fabric or leather that help readers to mark and refind a place in a book. Some can be made of resin-like plastic or metal. They are a popular type of fancraft and may be unique, hand-made items or printed versions of the artist's design. Fannish bookmarks can be dedicated to a large variety of topics, ranging from favourite shows, movies, and books to characters or ships.
Apart from their use as marking tools, some fans like to use bookmarks for home decoration and consider them souvenirs or collectors items.
