Bobbie Draper is a character in the TV series The Expanse, which is based on the series of novels of the same name by James S.A. Corey.

Canon

Bobbie Draper is stationed on Ganyemede, and watches her fellow soldiers die during the Ganyemede Incident. Her experience leads her to be drawn into a wider conspiracy, as Mars and Earth prepare for war.

Fandom

Bobbie is a fan favorite character in the books, and when it was announced she would appear in a live action TV series, many fans were eager to see an accurate portrayal of her character. Fans were hopeful that the actress's ethnicity and physique would match Bobbie's description from the novels.[1] Bobbie is described as extremely tall, strong and possibly of Polynesian descent. While Gwendoline Christie was often fancast as Bobbie, many, including the creators, wanted to avoid accusations of whitewashing her character. Fanart only encouraged discussion and anticipation for Bobbie's appearance on the show.[2]

When actress Frankie Adams was eventually cast as Bobbie Draper, discussion about her appearance began immediately. Some felt she was too petite, or too beautiful to portray the marine.[3] Ultimately most fans were very happy with her portrayal of the character.

Pairings

  • Chrisjen Avasarala/Bobbie Draper is the most popular pairing for Bobbie. The poly ship of Chrisjen Avasarala/Cotyar/Bobbie Draper is also common.
  • A rarer pairing is Bobbie Draper/Alex Kamal.
