Monaboyd is a slash pairing featuring the actors Billy Boyd and Dominic Monaghan, or any of the characters they portrayed on screen.

Examples include: Merry/Pippin (Lord of the Rings); Jamie/Geoffrey (Taggart/Hetty Wainthrop); and Charlie/Shark (Lost/Urban Ghost Story).

Ship History

Many fans become so attached to a particular character that they transfer that idolatry to the actor who plays him. Sometimes it happens the other way around, with the actor's fan falling in love with each character they play. With this often, the fannish perspective varies between RPF and FPF.

It is likely that monaboyd started as a way to ship the characters from LotR into other universes and plots other than the canon, and with that his fans started to send other characters played by the actors of both characters in the film.

Common Tropes

Example Fanworks

As the pairing was mostly active on personal websites, individual archives and Livejournal communities, a lot of fanworks have been lost to deletions or lock-downs.

As of March 2021, there were 1049 works for the pairing on AO3.
