Bilibili is a video hosting platform used largely in China. Many videos are found on Bilibili, and it is the site of some fanvidding in Chinese-Speaking Fandom. It is known for the danmu (弹幕, "bullet curtain") system that enables users to post rolling comments that are displayed alongside the video, a function that originates from the Japanese video site Nico Nico Douga.

Anime Streaming and Commenting

Bilibili licenses many anime series in China. Fannish commentaries and discussions are often facilitated through danmu, which is displayed alongside the video of each episode.

Anime-related Fanvids

Many fanvids posted on the platform are related to the anime fandom. Prominent subcategories of fanvids that are listed under the animation (动画) category on Bilibili include[1]:

Fan Translations and Reposts

Reposts and Chinese fan translations of foreign language content are also common on the platform, particularly content that are originally in Japanese or English. Popular reposted and translated material includes companion content for shows (such as podcasts, radio dramas, and character songs) as well as fannish content by other creators (such as animatics).

Some translations are posted with the permission of the original creator, such as this translation of a Japanese meta analysis video of Haikyuu originally posted on YouTube. However, some videos are reposted and translated without permission, which could lead to copyright concerns.

AI Generated Content

Since the popularity of generative AI, AI Generated Content has become popular on the platform, including songs which use AI-generated versions of singers' voices, such as Stefanie Sun.
