The Disclaimer

The story herein is of an adult nature involving men having relationships with other men, and no copy of this publication will be given to anyone under the age of twenty- one. All recognizable characters are the property of others and are being used with no intent to cause harm — to George Lucas, Jude Watson, the actors who portrayed the characters or any other owners not mentioned. We do this because we truly care about the characters, but have regrets that we can’t see them in the settings and relationships we particular readers would love to enjoy. Please do not be offended, even if you are of an age to be reading this.

From the Editorial

The editorial addressed fandom and friendship, as well as recognizing the effects that the Internet was having on the distribution of fanworks:

And so we come to the last of Alex’s fanfic stories that will grace the pages of a zine (or the net) for the time being, as she intends to go on to bigger and better things.

While I will miss Alex, the Chronicler of a deliciously strong and vulnerable Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi —not to mention a dead sexy (and deadly sexy) Xanatos and Bruck —I am fortunate that I will not have to miss Alex, My Friend, and if we’re all lucky, we will still be able to interact with Alex the Writer. She was one of the first who willingly let me transcribe her stories onto pages instead of just off the screen, and I will be forever grateful that she, too, understands the desire to have something to hold onto while reading — especially something so wickedly fun.

In the intervening years, Alex and I have also had the opportunity to actually meet in person instead of just on-line, and. I’d like to think, we have become friends that will transcend bonding over a couple of Star Wars characters and a love of hardcore kink. That has been one of the greatest things about TPM fandom —that many of us have not only found friends in the Force and the ‘net, but friends for life (or what we do that resembles it).

Beyond the Pale is also most likely the last TPM zine I will produce, as while the fandom is still healthy and strong, the ‘net has surely prevailed for both writers and readers, and those of us with along outstanding love affair with zines are slowly fading out into other things, or bowing to the inevitable and power of technology. So treasure this while it is available, and look back on it fondly when you find yourself picking it up sometime in the future. It is a very fitting end cap and monument to a wonderful slice of life and years that celebrated and nurtured a little movie that no one thought would last beyond it’s first couple of weeks.

Happy 30th Anniversary to the Star Wars Universe.

An Example of Print Reproduction

Artists (and their fans) depended on print zine editors to have the skill and funds to reproduce their artwork to the best of its advantage. This didn't always work out.

Recs and Reviews

This is a wonderful story! It's AU in that Obi is not Qui's padawan, but meets him as a knight. It neatly avoids my teacher/student squick that way, while using the wonderful philosophical tension we see in canon to great effect. This story contains one of the most interesting characterizations of Xanatos I've ever seen. I actually was rooting for Xan by the end, I liked him so much! It's funny, it's smart, it's long. Must read.[1]

...Probably Emily's favorite TPM fic. Ever. (Rating:NC-17, Warnings: Sorta noncon?)[2]
