Some Excerpts

I fell in love with Hutch from day one and couldn't get enough of him. After I was hooked, I realized that the two main characters had something very special going on and it never got old. I can watch episodes over and over again and not get tired of seeing that friendship in action.... I know this comes as a shock, but Hutch has always been my favorite.*bg* When the show first aired, I lived in Ohio and was surrounded by girls who loved Starsky. I was the only Hutch fan I knew, and, for a long time, I really actively disliked Starsky. Now I love him almost as much as Hutch. The thing that always gets me about Hutch is his gentleness. His eyes, his voice, his hands -- they're all just manifestations of his gentleness and I love the way people respond to him.

My first story was written years ago when I was in Junior High school. My best friend and I would write these huge, lengthy stories that, mercifully, no one else ever saw and I've since lost. They were positively horrible! As I recall, we wrote about Starsky and Hutch, Bonanza, Mod Squad (boy do I feel old!), Star Trek -- any show that had a good looking male character in it. Then, when I was in nursing school the first time around, I decided to try out my new computer one day and Starsky and Hutch happened to be on TV. Since I didn't know what else to search for on the Internet, I typed in Starsky and Hutch and found the BCL. I read stories like a mad woman -- just couldn't get enough. I finally got up the nerve to email one of the authors and that introduced me to Londonmaid who has become a dear friend. She encouraged me to write, beta read for me, and even taught me how to copy and paste so I could post stories! She is incredible and I feel blessed that she was my first contact.

I like to write in the first person because I find it easier to express a character's emotions in a first person perspective. I feel more comfortable writing from Starsky's point of view because I think our personalities are similar. It's a lot easier for me to get in his head and see things through his eyes because, to me, Hutch is a lot more complicated and doesn't reveal as much of himself in the show. Starsky is out there -- what you see is what you get, while Hutch is more reserved and I find it hard to realistically portray how he would react in certain situations. Quite frankly, I enjoy writing from an outsider's point of view the best. Since we, as fans, are on the outside looking in, I think it's a natural perspective to see things through a third character's eyes. It seems easy, to me, to put yourself in the place of someone who had interaction with the guys and project your feelings into the actions and reactions of that character.
