Some Excerpts
I'm an original fan, from the first run of the show. I was a teenager then, and I can remember looking forward to Wednesday nights with much anticipation.... I had a crush on Starsky. *G* But what drew me was the relationship. I don't recall ever seeing a friendship between two men portrayed that way before, with so much caring and emotion. They were as macho as could be, but they weren't afraid to show affection for each other. That's what really hooked me.
I love K. Hanna Korossy, Susan Lovett, Teri White. They nail the characterizations so that I can hear their voices in my head, something that makes or breaks a fanfic for me. The guys show emotion without being effeminate; they're close but not too close.
I started writing fanfic in 1998. I'd gotten hooked on The X-Files and was poking around online, looking for stuff about the show. When I discovered fanfic, I was stunned. I'd been making up episode tags and plotlines in my head since I was a kid. Here were people actually writing them and sharing them! And some of them were REALLY good! I read like a maniac for about six months. I eventually decided to write a story, sure I'd never have the guts to post it. But when I finished, I scraped up my courage and did. Feedback rolled in, and I was hooked.
As I said, I'm a hurt/comfort addict. The thing I adore about h/c is that it breaks down barriers. Characters will do and say things that they'd normally hold back, open themselves in ways that only that kind of extreme stress can inspire. I will say, though, that I'm not into h/c for h/c's sake -- in other words, it always has to be a logical outcome of the plot for me.
