Baptism of Fire is a gen Star Wars 159-page novel written by Ben Brackett and published in 2002.

Summary from the publisher's website:

...it is a time of great unrest and upheaval for the Republic. The powerful Techno Union, secretly in league with Darth Sidious in forming a Confederacy of Independent Systems, has brought slave labor camps to the Galactic Republic. Supreme Chancellor Palpatine, hoping to quell the endless debates in the senate, considers deploying military advisors and troops. The Jedi Council, hoping to avoid a galactic war, has dispatched two Jedi, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker, to investigate...

From the front of the zine:

Anakin is 17 and becomes involved with a woman who leads a rebellion. Her world is enslaved. Her brother imprisoned, Obi-Wan lays near death. Unlikely heroes emerge from smugglers row. Darth Sidious plots more evil...

The zine's dedication:

I would like to thank the folks at Chaos for publishing my story. This story is foremost written for Star Wars fans, secondly to George Lucas himself and the kid in him that never lost sight of the kid in all of us who loves Saturday Matinees. And to the readers, I am hoping you will enjoy this story as much as I did putting it to paper (or electric light paper). A foreword about some of the new characters you will meet in this story. I've taken poetic liberty to imagine people who could be if we took time to look for them in their proper place in the Star Wars universe. So, if after reading the whole story you want to chew the fat about if they should, could or would... etc. Well either way, if you care to write to me at Chaos Unlimited and they will forward any mail to me. If you include an S ASE, 1 will answer all inquires or letters sent.

My Best Always & Peace,

Ben Brackett
