Avery is a Hanson fanfic written by Ashley.

The story is written from the point of view of younger sister Avery, who has been kept in the dark about Taylor's health. As the story progresses, she learns about and deals with his cancer diagnosis while also experiencing her own teenage drama.

Reactions and Reviews

Not surprisingly, Avery isn’t one of those stories that give you the warm fuzzies. Sure, there are some heartwarming moments, but there are chapters full of details about Taylor’s treatment that I find really difficult to read. But most of all, it’s the story of a brother and sister’s relationship, and it’s that perspective on the whole cancer topic that makes this a really unique read. It’s strange to say it’s enjoyable, but I don’t think anyone should avoid it just because of the chance that it will make them cry.[1]

Speaking of tragedy, nobody does it any better than Ashley. If this is your genre, then this is your girl. Avery is probably the most well known of her stories. Bring a box of tissues with you, and settle in for a bumpy ride. And if you’re a glutton for punishment, check out her other stories on the site. Ouch.[2]

Go read this tear jerker of a story told through Taylor's little sister Avery! It is beautifully written! Go check it out now![3]

As I start this review, I have to say that I haven't read a lot of long, chapter fiction. I guess the reason would be that I haven't found a lot of stories that have really caught my attention, unlike Avery. People who read Hanson fiction, think of a story where the fan meets one of the guys and they fall madly in love. When I think of fan fiction, I think of a story that makes me either laugh, cry, smile or one that leads me to be moved in some emotional way. I guess that's the whole point of writing and reading Hanson fiction (or any type of story really), to be moved in a way that somehow connects you to the character's own thoughts and feelings. and Avery, is just the type of story that does that.[4]

Awards

Avery won awards in the HNG Awards, Reckless Abandon Awards, Unpredictable Hanfic Awards and Various Artists Awards. It is featured in the PlaceToHide.net and Various Artists halls of fame, as well as the Your Illusion top five lists.
