August is a Wicked Month by Kitty Fisher is deliciously sexy, with a wanton, teasing Doyle finally getting what he wants from his partner.[2]
An atmosphere-laced, first-time story that provides a nice contrast to the previous one. While O Yardley excels at expressing the sunny externals, Kitty Fisher's strength lies in exploring the shadowed places in the interior of her characters' minds and hearts. Her texts always deliver an emotional punch and she has a keen eye for metaphor. Bisexual Doyle takes a chance one hot August night in a tawdry seaside town and tries it on with the partner he's been lusting after, only to discover not only reciprocity, but more than he had dared hope. A sexually alight Doyle; a magnetic Bodie; a deserted beach; memories of a childhood long past and none too pleasant; and consummation of present needs and feelings under the dubious cover of the walkway: these elements weave together to create one of the happiest of Kitty Fisher's moody pieces.[3]
