August Derleth was an American author who contributed to the cosmic horror and weird fiction movements, among others. He corresponded with H.P. Lovecraft as a teenager and later founded Arkham House along with Donald Wandrei in an effort to preserve Lovecraft's memory. He coined the name of the Cthulhu Mythos and contributed to it with his own works.
Derleth wrote and edited science fiction, horror, fantasy, and detective fiction, with his detective character Solar Pons being a pastiche of Sherlock Holmes.
