Audio Fanfic Podcast, started by Rachel Drouillard in September 2019, began as a podfic endeavor specifically for The X-Files fandom. In the first two years the podcast added multiple fandoms, including Star Trek, One Day At A Time, Marvel, Harry Potter, Law & Order SVU, Silk Stalkings, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the Marvel Universe, and more.

In October of 2020 Audio Fanfic Podcast began releasing biweekly podcast episodes related to X-Files fanfiction. Episodes include staff favorite lists, Darkest Timeline Book Club discussions, author interviews, and other relevant topics. The podcast is hosted on SoundCloud.

As of January 2022, the project accumulated over 300K plays on soundcloud, with most plays coming from the US, United Kingdom and Germany.[1]

Podfics

The first podfic uploaded September 29, 2019. Narration is provided on a volunteer basis. The format has shifted since its founding and in 2021 shifted to 6 X-Files fanfics a week, 3 on Mondays and Fridays and 2 other fandom fanfics released on Wednesdays. They frequently release specials on holidays or character’s birthdays.

Podcast Episodes

October 1, 2020 the first episode of the podcast premiered. Episodes are released biweekly on Thursdays. The first season released 18 episodes. The second season began September 2, 2021.

Darkest Timeline Book Club This offshoot of AFP takes a look at the darker side of fanfic, specific to The X-Files fandom. Episodes examine tropes such as /other (meaning relationships other than Mulder and Scully pairing), major character death, and other hurtful themes that are not for the faint-of-heart fans.

Author Interviews Episodes dive deep and ask the questions burning on all our geeky minds. From up-and-coming writers to fan favorites and classic authors, the interviews seek to gain a deeper understanding of fanfic culture, as well as inspire aspiring writers in the fanfic work.

Staff Favorites Those looking to find the perfect fic need look no further than the expert opinion of the AFP staff. Each episode is broken down by tropes, themes, or year to ensure that fans can find the perfect fic for them.
