Post-series, Blair has taken the detective position in Major Crimes when a new, and this time undefeatable, foe comes along: budget cuts. As the newest man in the department, Blair suddenly finds himself facing unemployment. Again. Lo and behold, here comes a (handsome, charming) knight in shining armor named David ,with a great new job that's right up Blair's alley. Shockingly enough, Jim develops an instant dislike to David. Imagine that.

As a person who is frequently at the bottom of the totem pole, I can sympathize with Blair's plight. Couple that with jealous!Jim and the satisfaction of our two boys finally (*finally*) coming to their senses and you have a solid, realistic, post-series fic.[1]

Cutbacks mean that someone from Major Crime has to go, and Blair, the most recently appointed detective, has to be it. Almost immediately he gets a serious job offer, courtesy of a friend... a job that would let him use his anthropological training and totally fits the beliefs Naomi has instilled in him.

This is a story of misunderstandings, unselfishness, wants and needs, that runs an emotional roller-coaster all the way. Several of Veronica's stories have been recced here in the past, and I make no apologies for adding another one to the list.[2]

Summary: Just when Blair has gotten into the groove of being a detective, Simon has some devastating news: due to budget cuts, Blair is going to be laid off. But as one door closes, another opens and Blair is offered what could be a dream job; something a lot less dangerous and he'll be able to use his anthro knowledge.

In the meantime, Jim is reeling from the news when he gets another shocker. Megan informs him that the guy who's getting the job for Blair has the hots for him and, since Jim is oblivious to the fact that Blair's been secretly in love with him, he has a good chance of losing Blair altogether.

Reccer's Notes: Veronica writes lovely romantic stories flavored with some angst. Enjoy.[3]
