holy hell guys we’ve got a new winner for best MCU Steve/Tony fic. ok reblogging this when it’s not 4am and I’m about to pass out. Because if you like S/T at all, you need to read this fic.If you like a well-written Natasha, Thor or Rhodey in your S/T fic, you need to read this fic. Like my only complaint is there’s not enough of them in the story- especially Rhodey because omg the author’s take on their friendship is so adorable and I want 47,000+ words of just that. But I also love the author’s take on Tony and Natasha’s friendship too. And omg it’s like someone has finally gotten movie Thor right. \o/
The plot is beyond great because it takes a situation that has happened in the comics several times, makes it even more personal and emotionally gut-wrenching, but not only that- it actually goes into the fallout from that situation, not just with the Avengers themselves but the public’s reaction to it in a way that the comics usually gloss over.
AND THE SEX! Really intense and emotional and really fucking hot.

This rec has been a long time coming. I could pretend this is part of the whole holiday theme thing, but tbh, I would have recced this no matter what because oh my god, this is stunning. This is quite possibly one of the best fics out there, not even just for this pairing. You know what, scratch that, this is an incredible piece of writing, not just for this pairing or fandom or even for fanfiction in general - it’s an incredible piece of writing in and of itself. The details and nuances, the introspection and descriptions of media coverage and public reactions, the imagery, the plot, the relationships and characterizations. It’s not just Steve and Tony either - literally every character in this well-written (e.g., Thor, who is notoriously tricky to write without going overboard, is amazing in this, he made me feel so much). I can’t actually handle it. It puts you back together about as many times as it takes you apart, and it’s so overwhelmingly real. I mean, it’s not even a Get-Together fic! To invoke this much emotion and investment - especially in someone like me, who’s not a huge fan of Established Relationship fics - is no small feat. Honestly, I skimmed through it before writing this rec to get a better hold of my thoughts and ended up just re-reading everything starting somewhere in the middle and I still cried an embarrassing amount. What the heck. But, yeah, this is really the kind of fic that will stay with you for a long while, if not forever. Really great stuff.[2]
This gloriously beautiful fic gets me every time. The descriptions are so vivid. Tony’s suit gets compromised and attacks Steve, and it just about kills Tony, who is having to watch. Steve is just so…God, Steve, he’s awesome in this. Smart and good and understanding, while trying to deal with an awful situation. Plus, you get the whole waking up in the hospital thing. Trust me, this is an amazing read, and if you haven’t tried it yet, maybe because the description doesn’t give much away, please read this. It is absolutely beautifully written, full of pain and angst and pining, but with a happy ending that gives me chills every time. It isn’t overwrought, though. That’s the thing with this one that I think keeps me coming back, because some fluff gets way too cloying for me, but this one reads like it is really them, you know? Top notch.[3]
This hits you right in the feels. Established Stony fic where it’s very close to Christmas and a battle goes very wrong and Steve ends up in the hospital. Tony is extremely self-hating for parts of this and it hurts. Warnings for graphic depictions of violence.[4]
Really gorgeous, heart-wrenching fic where Tony's suit gets hijacked by a baddie and he ends up doing a lot of damage. I loved Steve and Tony's relationship here and how it was so obvious how much love there was there between them. Really interesting read.[5]
