Apocalypse Now is a 1979 war/drama film by Francis Ford Coppola, based loosely on Joseph Conrad's novel Heart of Darkness. Coppola set the story during the Vietnam War. It tells the story of U.S. Army Captain Benjamin Willard (Martin Sheen) who has been sent on a mission to terminate Colonel Walter E. Kurtz (Marlon Brando), who has gone insane and thinks of himself as a god.
