History

Anime Boston began in 2003 and moved from the Boston Park Plaza hotel to the Hynes Convention center in 2005.[2]

The convention was cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

In 2023, Youtuber RedBard posted a video discussing the history of the convention[3], including incidents like the 2003 overcrowding, and the convention's connection to Providence Anime Conference.

2010 Hetalia Photoshoot Incident

In 2010, an controversy that became known as the "Anime Boston Incident" gained widespread infamy after a group of Hetalia cosplayers did a photoshot where several participants did a Nazi salute. For more information, see Anime Boston Incident.

Panels and Events

The convention hosts many panels, most of which are run by fans. There is a yearly anime music video contest, which had 200 entries in 2019. [4]
