Anime conventions can either be run by fans or as a commercial venture. They often have cosplay and AMV contests, other showings of AMVs and anime, panels, and masses and masses of dealers and artists.
The first anime convention, Comiket[1], was held in Tokyo in 1975. Comiket prominently featured fan published manga called dōjinshi.
