Amanda Palmer Eyes is a manipulated photograph of Amanda Palmer after a performance. Both the original "close up pictures of her [Palmer's] face" and the editing were created by David Lindes.[1] As of late 2020, the work has over 40k views and 37 faves on flickr.[1] According to a comment by the author, for an unknown period of time in 2008, Amanda Palmer Eyes was in the first row of google image results for Amanda Palmer, resulting in the large boost in hits.
Techniques
"There's just one source image here, but with several curves adjustment layers, each partially masked out, and an additional layer of just white, to get some unwanted darkness from creeping in on the sides."[1]David Lindes
"the only manipulations I did were contrast adjustment sorts of things in the extreme -- I didn't change where elements were or anything (though I did fade a couple of things out into white in ways other than just tweaking levels/curves)."
Reception
Shannon Henry remixed the image with a quote, viewable here.[2] Flickr typically doesn't have a very active comments section, but several people left comments with positive statements, such as, "She's so beautiful! I love how she does her eyebrows! This is an awesome shot!"[3] One commenter pointed out the similarities between the manipulated image and a sketch.
