alt.fan.sailor-moon was a Sailor Moon newsgroup. It was founded by Ken Arromdee in 1995.

List members created OtakuWars! in 1997, which were archived extensively on other pages. They may be compared to Forever Knight Wars, but rather than forming teams, participants generally fight for one character each. The roleplay group Mad Otaku Scientist Cabal also formed on AFSM, as did the shared universe Neo Future Sailor Cabinet. The newsgroup had an affiliated IRC channel, #AFSM.

Pins

Back in May '97, Rick Sammartino, a long time AFSM poster, proposed the creation of a lapel pin to demonstrate membership in the Alt.Fan.Sailor-Moon newsgroup. After much discussion, Rick solicited pin designs and held a contest with the newsgroup posters to pick the most popular one. The pin illustrated, designed by Steve Allen Richards, was declared the overwhelming favorite. Rick handled every detail which included submitting the design for manufacture, covering the up-front cost and distribution of the pins after they came in. There were a total of 200 pins in all. The pin markers in the list above indicate pin ownership for these particular posters.

Phoenix Anime

AFSM Party

An annual gathering of newsgroup members (AFSM Party) happened at Project A-kon. A similar event was held at Anime North.
