Alphinaud Leveilleur is one of the main characters in Final Fantasy XIV. He joined the cast in A Realm Reborn and has been an active party in the story ever since.

Introduced in A Realm Reborn, Alphinaud was initially arrogant and snobbish, believing himself to know the answers to all of Eorzea's problems. This changed after his attempt to build a private militia to be able to act against threats failed, leading to him and his fellow Scions to be persecuted and scatter across Eorzea. His failure humbled him, and over the course of the following expansions he learned from his mistakes and became a capable Scion.
Fandom
Fan attitudes towards Alphinaud tend to change as people move through the story. His snobbish attitude in A Realm Reborn aggravates many people, and has led to exclamations of confusion as to why he is so popular. This usually changes upon going through the Heavensward storyline, where his character development sees him grow more mature and move past his old flaws.
As he and his twin sister Alisaie look identical but are different genders, many fans headcanon either one of them as trans.
Many fans feel discontent over Alphinaud having very light skin, since his father and grandfather had much darker skin. Those fans will often reimagine him with a skin colour closer to them in fanworks, both fanart and modded screenshots.
Following the introduction of his father, Fourchenault Leveilleur, many fans expressed a joking sentiment of wanting to adopt Alphinaud and Alisaie.
In a 2020 NHK poll, Alphinaud was voted the 65th most popular character in the Final Fantasy franchise.[1][2]
Shipping
Shipping characters with Alphinaud is seen as controversial in parts of the fandom. When he was introduced in A Realm Reborn, he was stated to be 15. The flow of time throughout the story is unclear so his exact canon age is undetermined at later points, but parts of the fandom continue seeing him as underage and disapprove of shipping him with characters they perceive as older.
