The Aila Test is a character test to help analyse the representation of indigenous women in media. The criteria to pass are as follows:

The indigenous woman...

  • is a main character.
  • does not fall in love with a white man
  • does not end up either raped or murdered

As with other character tests, passing or failing it doesn't necessarily mean the representation is 'good' or 'bad'. The test analyses one aspect of the representation.
