Reactions and Reviews
Infinite Diversity. Never is IDIC better demonstrated than in the incredibly diverse imaginations of our K/S writers. Had it been possible, I would have held my breath for the entire time it took me to read this unique and compelling example of Spock’s love for Jim Kirk. The creative way Ms. Greener shows us the depth of his devotion and allows us to once again glimpse the times and ways it was displayed is totally new. This is an unbelievably sad account, with bits of hope dappling its colorless despair. The greatest sorrow for me was the conclusion. I wanted light to burst through and clear away the gray fog in which Spock had existed for so many years. I wanted it to blast through like Kirk charged onto the bridge after recovering from the aging process in “The Deadly Years”. Instead, the hoped-for light seeped in - only a dim imposter of the sunshine that is James T. Kirk.
The scene of Spock standing over the River Opal with its fitting and descriptive name, its alluring beauty, will stay with me for a very long time. As will the meaning of this intrepid Vulcan’s dependency and the vision of the shining disc that holds his soul captive. Incredible story, just beautiful. [1]
