Ad Oblivione is a for-profit fanzine centered on the location Dragonspine from Genshin Impact.
About
The project was announced on Twitter on December 12, 2021[1]. The interest check ran from December 13-31, 2021[2], garnering 155 responses, some statistics from which were posted on the zine Twitter account. Mod applications ran from January 5 to February 5, 2022[3]. Contributor applications ran from February 15 to March 15, 2022[4].
On February 10, 2022 the zine Twitter account ran a series of polls featuring Bennett and Barbara and their adventures in Dragonspine[5]. Each poll received 50-61 votes. On February 24, 2022, the account posted a "message in a bottle" similar in theme to the bottled messages found in Dragonspine in-game, which were the subject of much speculation after Dragonspine's release[6].
On May 8, 2022, an announcement was posted "addressing some concerns raised in a recent Twitter thread[7] by previous moderators of this project"[8]. According to the announcement:
A moderator was called into question for plagiarism and they have since left the team. Moving forward, we will not be using any of their graphics, which will result in a change in our graphics style.
Preorders opened on August 6, 2022[9] with a planned end date of September 5, 2022[10], which was later extended to September 30, 2022[11]. The following pricing tiers were offered:
- Wyrmrest Valley ($15 USD): Digital Zine
- Starglow Cavern ($30 USD): Physical Zine + Digital Zine + Bookmark
- Skyfrost Nail ($40 USD): Physical Zine + Digital Zine + Bookmark + Sticker + Postcard + Print + Polaroid
- Entombed City ($75 USD): Physical Zine + Digital Zine + Bookmark + Sticker + Postcard + Print + Polaroid + Shaker Charm + Standee + Sticker Sheet
An additional three-piece standee was available as an add-on for $25 USD with the purchase of any physical bundle.
On September 13, 2022, as a promotion for Albedo's birthday, zine bundles were available for 15% off with promo code HAPPYBD[12].
Three stretch goals were included in the project: a notepad at 50 orders, a tote bag at 75 orders, and a washi tape at 100 orders[13]. Only the Skyfrost Nail and Entombed City tiers were eligible for the first stretch goal, and only the Entombed City tier was eligible for the second and third stretch goals. As of September 3, 2022, the zine was "a few orders away" from hitting the first stretch goal[14]. No announcement was made that the stretch goal had been achieved, but the notepad was produced[15].
An announcement was made February 9, 2023 that most of the bundles without the add-on standee (which needed to be remade) had shipped[16].
