Renji Abarai (阿散井 恋次, Abarai Renji) is a character from the manga and anime Bleach.
Canon
Renji is the vice-captain of the 6th Division of Gotei 13, the Shinigami military in Bleach. He is second in command to Kuchiki Byakuya.
He is introduced to the story when he and Byakuya arrive in Karakura to arrest Kuchiki Rukia (Byakuya's adopted sister and Renji's estranged childhood friend) for breaking Shinigami law in working with Ichigo. Renji and Byakuya at first follow the laws in arresting Rukia and bringing her back to the Shinigami world for trial and execution, but as more of Aizen's plots are revealed they defect, help rescue Rukia, and fight Aizen.
Eventually he married Rukia and in post-canon material they have a daughter named Abarai Ichika.
Fandom
Renji was somewhat tangential to the main ship war in the fandom of IchiRuki vs IchiHime. He is most commonly shipped with Rukia (and that was eventually made canon) but there is also some fan content for Renji/Ichigo and Renji/Orihime. Byakuya/Renji is the most popular slash ship for the character.
