A Sunset Touch is a Kirk/Spock story by Cyd Bascom.
It was published in the print zines Within the Mirror #10 and Kismet.
Summary
"As an aide and lover to Nogura, Lt. Kirk is also taken when the Admiral is captured by a rebel faction and both must be saved by Spock who wants Kirk as his own."
Reactions and Reviews
A neat, imaginative story about Kirk as Nogura's "personal aide" AKA bed warmer and Spock as first officer on the Enterprise with Pike as captain.Kirk and Nogura are taken prisoner by the rebels against the Empire. They are held hostage until Spock comes to their rescue.
Fun and enjoyable reading despite constant telling-not-showing. But for some reason, probably because of such inventive ideas and a nice fast pace, I almost didn't mind. Even with sentences all askew and some stilted dialogue, I really enjoyed this story.
I'm a sucker for everyone lusting after a gorgeous, golden Kirk and a brave, mysterious Vulcan to the rescue.
Pike is snarlingly villainous (or is it villainously snarling?) and the rebel leader is appropriately noble. Lots of fun.
At one point, however, I was confused as to who was "the leader". Nogura? The rebel? Then, while they're held in a very public prison, Kirk lets Nogura do it to him. Did Asejo stay or leave? Was he watching?
I absolutely loved their "smoking a stim-stick" and "Jala-stick". It was nice how it was just mentioned without being pointed up or explained. A person in their own time and milieu doesn't pay attention to what are just ordinary details of life for them.
Also, a nice little twist of an ending. [1]
