Reactions and Reviews
This was one of the very first due South fics I read. I love fics where one of the guys is completely clueless. Ray thinks that Fraser is “courting” a girl Mountie in town for a conference but he is so very very wrong. I love Ray in this, so paranoid and so devastated because he thinks he’s going to lose Fraser, and I love romantic!Fraser.[1]
Why You Should Read This: Fraser is excited, because an old Mountie friend of his has come to town. And Ray’s just fine with that, it’s greatness, except then Fraser starts asking Ray all these questions. How would Ray court someone? Did this scent smell more pleasant than this one? And of course Fraser would ask Ray how to go about wooing this female friend of his, because it’s not like Fraser’s ever that smooth with the ladies. Despite the possibly obvious route this fic takes, it’s still a lot of fun – a simple, humorous romance story with a little bit of angst and jealousy. A nice way to pass the time! [2]
However, if you're looking for more examples, I really love A Fine Romance by Sihaya Black and Chickwriter. Ray is the unreliable narrator who has the big epiphany at the end, but through his eyes the reader gets enough information to work it out near the start. I think the usual problem with these stories is the narrator comes off as stupid, but they manage to avoid that.[3]
