ALL CAPS was an independent electronic band formed by Kristina Horner (of wizard rock band The Parselmouths) and Luke Conard (of wizard rock band Ministry of Magic) sometime in 2009. From their second album on, the band was associated with DFTBA Records.[1]

While the general theme of ALL CAPS as a band was music related to internet nerd culture, the band created a number of fannish songs and rereleased a few tracks associated with the members' respective wizard rock bands.

History

The band was formed sometime in 2009[2] by Kristina Horner and Luke Conard, who were dating at the time and had collaborated with each other in the wizard rock community.

Horner and Conard broke up during the summer of 2010, but kept this information private and continued activities.[3]

In June of 2011,[4] Horner announced that she had been diagnosed with vocal nodules and would be ceasing her music activities in order to heal. While the option for future activities was not ruled out, this effectively marked the end of the band.

During a wave of allegations wedged against popular YouTubers in March of 2014, Horner published a blog post entitled "The Truth About ALL CAPS (yes another post about dating YouTubers)" to her tumblr blog. In it, she detailed that Conard (who is seven years her senior) had emotionally abused and manipulated her (as well as other women) during and after their relationship. Horner stated that her vocal nodules grew so severe because Conard, refusing to believe she had a health condition, pressured her to keep recording and preforming.[3]

Horner also stated that she never received any payment for her work on the band's first album.[3] DFTBA Records co-founder Alan Lastufka, in response to a tumblr ask, expressed that the label was unaware of Conard's actions as the label was not involved in the production and distribution of that album.[1] Lastufka further confirmed that Horner had received payment for the band's work under the label as he "personally calculated and paid out all DFTBA royalties every month for the last 5+ years... I can say with confidence that Kristina directly received every penny she was owed from DFTBA sales of ALL CAPS music and merch, including her half of the royalties from their first album once it was later sold on DFTBA." [1]

The 2014 controversy made it clear that the band was officially over, although no formal announcement was ever made.
