"500 Miles (I'm Gonna Be)" is a The Professionals vid by Media Cannibals. It was originally created circa 1993-1994 and underwent a revision in 1994. It was digitally remastered in 2006 by Justacat.
Vidder's Notes
Vidder's Note: - From Sandy's original liner notes for the Media Cannibals 2 vid tape: "I was never happy with the original version of this on MC tape No. 1. I'd blown the audio partway through it, and when I laid the audio back down, I got it 1/2 second off. Too many Pros stories show Bodie doing all the running; I wanted to do a visual rebuttal, showing Doyle doing the chasing."
Sandy's comments in 1994:
My least favorite songvid of the ones I have done is to the song, I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles). The clips are not on the beat, there is no effort to tell a story, there's lots wrong with it. On the other hand, lots of people tell me it is their fav of my vids. Why? Because the entire vid is just an excuse to show Doyle, in tight jeans, walking to the music. Not for one minute to knock Doyle in tight jeans, but it's depressing, and leads me to understand more clearly than I had before about the dangers of working to please an audience. [1]
Vidder's notes between making the first and second version:
[When I made the vid] I asked a list person what havering meant, and they said "wander." So,in my vid, I have clips of Doyle rolling down the hill (from Slushfund) and then Bodie picking him up (havering to you...)
Now, not that I would ever stoop to violence (especially since I don't remember who told me anyway...) but M. Fae, while watching my video, says (paraphrase alert) not a bad vid, and I like the group, but I was wondering about the clips you used there...
And she said, in her lovely glaswegian accent, "Haver meant to rattle on, or talk about things you know nothing about..." Someone talks about the raise they're going to get a work, and someone else at the bar says, "Go on with you, you're havering again..."
Am I going to fix the vid? What do you think? [2]

Best Pros vid on the tape and much tighter than the original. The ordering of clips and the timing improved an already strong vid. [3]

This is the redo that they did to a vid that's on the first tape. I always liked that vid, but this one definitely feels tighter, which makes it that much more enjoyable.[4]

This makes me chuckle. We get clip after clip of Ray walking (usually away from the camera!). Gradually the journeys get more and more arduous. Soon he's climbing and crawling and hobbling and… You get the picture. I've always been fond of the song. Now with this vid I have lovely visual to put with it. Wonderful. [5]

My all time favourite is 500 Miles by the Media Cannibals - mainly because it's got Doyle walking in it. [6]

I love this vid. It is amazingly fabulous and so well done. I've watched it a hundred times and never get tired of it. [7]
....brilliant choice, I love this one! I love the idea of Doyle walking 500 miles to keep up with his Bodie, and of course the clips aren't bad either... [8]
