ZPM, or Zero Point Module, is the advanced energy source of the Ancients that powers Atlantis.
It is often used as a plot device in SGA fandom, especially in fanworks featuring Rodney McKay, where the scientists' attraction to and excitement about this infinitely advanced energy source is painted in an (almost) sexual light.
Since an acquisition of this vital power source is a pivotal point for the expedition, it often serves as a catalyst for an exploration of intense emotions, major events, or changes to the Atlantis culture.
