Reactions and Reviews
1989
Very vivid imagery is used effectively in this story as Kirk, lost in the dark, waits for Spock to find him. It is a typical reaction, I think, that one, deprived of sight and sound, would speak aloud, the mere sound of one's voice helping dispel the terrible aloneness. A good situation for Kirk to explore his feelings and Spock to overhear. [1]
This was one of the better stories in the zine. I've always found the 'sensory deprivation' idea an intriguing one. The description of the setting was excellent—I felt I was right there with both Kirk and Spock. I also liked the way the story switched back and forth between their viewpoints. Once Kirk and Spock were together the conversation seemed to drag on a little too long, and the second sex scene was unnecessary. Overall, an enjoyable read. The fact that this was the more mature 'movie' Kirk and Spock somehow made the story seem more innocent and endearing. [2]
