Where the Dreams is a Kirk/Spock story by T'Pat.
Reactions and Reviews
I am particularly fond of first time stories and anguished confessions,. This story is satisfying on many levels, a classic story of Kirk and Spock coming together and bonding but with some twists to keep the theme fresh. The story is written out of order with Kirk initially avoiding Spock until Spock compels Kirk to confess his feelings of love. Chapter 2 tells the story of a mission in which circumstances bring Kirk to realization of what he feels for Spock. One of my favorite lines in the story is when Spock quotes back what Kirk said to him in Amok Time, "Afterwards, I can pretend that - I haven‘t heard a word you said." The story concludes with a happy ending: a nice balance to some of the darker end of five year mission, movie-era stories.[1]
T'Pat's writing is more humorous than the authors I usually recommend, although the author hits very well the tone of the show. "Where the Dreams" reminds me a bit of "The Vulcan Academy Murders" because of the way (and the detail) the establishing of the mental bond between Kirk and Spock is described. T'Pat prefers fade-outs to explicit sex scenes and focuses on the emotional/mental closeness that slowly forms. While the "Dreams" series consists of eight stories in total, I prefer the first story in the series.[2]
