We'll Always Have Paris is a Draco/Hermione novel-length fanfic by Melissa D. Considered a classic, it is one of the earliest Draco/Hermione stories in the fandom and many fans credit it as playing a significant role in popularizing Draco/Hermione as well as for introducing many of the tropes within the fandom.

Summary (on Schnoogle):"Draco and Hermione go on an exchange program to Beauxbatons Academy. They enter a rocky partnership to help each other make it through all of their classes; neither of them thinks falling in love will be part of the deal."[1]

Reviews/Reactions

"This is a great fic in which Draco and Hermione are both relocated and reluctantly learn that their previous assumptions about the other are wrong. Prepare for lots of angst and unresolved sexual tension. I was not very fond of the ending but I think that this is still a definite must-read."[2]

"My all time favorite. This story changed my life. This is the reason I'm a complete D/Hr Fan. I'm actually one the devoted fans who painstakingly waits for an update from the renown Melissa D. while this story was still in progress about 6 years ago. The storyline is very original and unique. The progress of their relationship is so sweet and slow that really allows readers to enjoy and understand the story more. The ending was not quite what I expected, but I'm in love with this story nonetheless."[3]

"Often considered the foundstone of the Draco/Hermione ship, this story was written several years ago and introduced many of the fanon traditions. In fact, it was the story which first drew my attention to the possibilities of a relationship between Draco and Hermione. This is well-written and builds a plausible dynamic between the two protagonists, exploring the racial, social, and philosophical differences between the two. It also shows the underlying passion inherent in these two characters — regardless of whether it’s driven by undiscovered love or long-time hatred. The nicest aspect of this story, in my opinion, is how well Draco’s conflicted loyalties are used to drive the latter half of the story. Even if it’s no longer canon-compliant, this is an enjoyable read."[4]

This is actually the first pairing that I fell in love with, this is also the first fanfic I ever read. So I owe Melissa D. a lot for bringing me into the lovely world of Harry Potter fanfiction. [...]

Why everyone should read this: Yes I know what you are thinking...exchange program- it's going to be cliche. Ah but it isn't, well to me anyways. The author really draws out the time between the beginning and when Draco and Hermione finally realize they care for each other. They don't get right down to it. She also stays in cannon fairly well. There are OC's, but are in no way Mary Sue's.

Why you've chosen to rec this fic: As I already said it was my first fanfic I ever ready, and to this day is one of my all time favourites. She is a very talented writer, explaining everything in detail that it makes you think that you are actually there. A definite must read if you like Draco/Hermione.[5]
