The War of the Worlds Fan Club published a newsletter and was focused on role-playing.
From a flyer: "Do you long for a WOW role-playing fan club? Do you wish you could portray a character that fights the alien invaders, or is one? Then, I have the club for you. Oddly enough, the club is named "The War of the Worlds Fan Club." We offer a free membership for up to two characters (alien or human). Your name will be added to our character list, for possible involvement in an upcoming role-playing, life-threatening mission. Your only cost is the quarterly newsletter offered on the 1st of January, April, July and October. The price is usually between $2 and $3, and is announced in the prior quarter's newsletter."
The newsletter had ten issues. See War of the Worlds Fan Club Newsletter.
